The “sliced up” nature of Miramontes’ characters creates the image of a body reduced to its basic footprint. Destined to disappear, all that remains is the body of a memory.
This relationship with memory is particularly visible in Bather featuring a female bather in an early twentieth century swimming costume. We can admire the gentle shape of this woman’s body as she tests the water with her big toe, almost appearing ready to faint.
