Official biography of Catherine Semoulin, artist painter

Catherine Semoulin is a graduate of the Brussels Royal Academy of Arts, with the jury first prize in painting. She gets the Anto-Carte prize in 2005. She uses dry pastel and large size to represent her personal and secret universe. “I let surface the unconscious, I contain the resurgences in a line, in a stroke of color. My images appear then from the shadow where are buried my past glances and the brightness of my consciousness” When the composition is done, the artist’s best moment starts; it is the moment of the material, the sensual delight of colors – full and powerful colors, with subtle strokes. About her art, Michel Voiturier, Art Critic, wrote: “Catherine Semoulin likes colors. She uses them with jubilation and a keen sense of luminosity. Her compositions imply a discontinuous narration which tells by evocative allusion …” Halfway between dream and reality, between violence and serenity, between abstraction and representation, Catherine Semoulin is off the beaten tracks of the classic production, drawing her inspiration from the everyday life, questioning the elementary forms of the graphic language, she gives her own rhythm to her paintings, carrying away the spectator, delighted, beyond the mirror.
